Comhshaol - the Climate Bar Association and the Irish Centre for Human Rights at the University of Galway are thrilled to announce an upcoming event dedicated to the preservation and protection of Ireland's rivers and lakes. Titled "Mountain River - The Role of Law in Making our Rivers and Lakes Pristine for Future Generations," this event aims to shed light on critical environmental issues and explore innovative legal solutions.


Event Highlights:


  • Rehearsed Reading of "Mountain River": The event will begin with a rehearsed reading of the specially commissioned play "Mountain River" by Georoid Mac Unfraidh SC. This play delves into the current issues facing Ireland's rivers, setting the stage for an in-depth discussion.


  • Panel Discussion: Following the play, a panel discussion chaired by Judge Elizabeth Maguire of the Circuit Court will explore the legal challenges and potential solutions for protecting Ireland's water bodies. The panel will examine the benefits of innovative dispute resolution fora and consider models of arbitration or mediation that could be integrated into Ireland's existing systems to combat water pollution.
